繼法國諾貝爾得主稱武漢肺炎病毒出自武漢病毒實驗室後，俄羅斯的微生物專家也說，中國的這些科學家們很可能是在研究HIV疫苗時製造出的病毒變異，他們「做了絕對瘋狂的事」。

英國「每日郵報」（Daily Mail）報導，俄國科學院恩格爾哈特（Engelhardt Institute）分子生物研究所博士朱瑪柯夫（Petr Chumakov）說，武漢病毒研究所的科學家們致力於研究各種冠狀病毒已經超過10年，但他們研究冠狀病毒的致病性，並不是為了要蓄意創造出致人於死的變異病毒。推薦

朱瑪柯夫說，這些科學家的目的很可能是為了要研發人類免疫缺乏病毒（HIV，又稱愛滋病毒）的疫苗，卻導致這次的結果。

這個看法和法國病毒學家蒙坦耶（Luc Montagnier）一樣。蒙坦耶說，2019冠狀病毒基因組中帶有另一種病毒的序列，也就是人類免疫缺乏病毒。

就朱瑪柯夫來看，武漢的科學家們「做了絕對瘋狂的事」，譬如基因組的插入物，使病毒能夠感染人類細胞。

朱瑪柯夫是知名學者，他告訴莫斯科共青團報，這些插入物改變了天然的基因序列，賦予了病毒新的屬性。

他認為，有關當前2019冠狀病毒可能是創造出來的，這個全景圖正在慢慢浮現。有必要對此展開調查，並在從事危險病毒的基因工作方面，提出新的規範，「現在說要責怪誰還太早。」

有關造成2019冠狀病毒疾病（COVID-19，武漢肺炎）的病毒究竟源於何處，目前尚未有定論。

報導引述俄羅斯聯邦生物醫學署長斯科弗佐娃（Veronika Skvortsova）說，很難去判定這次的疫情是人為的，這必須要有非常全面的研究才行。
