根據官方資料，來自中國國家實驗室的病原體已經感染了數千人。衛生當局週五宣布，已在中國西北部蘭州市3245人身上發現了布魯氏菌。

在第一批的檢測中有1401人呈現陽性。目前並沒有人傳人的跡象。該疾病是由布魯氏菌細菌引起的，並可能引起發燒、關節痛和頭痛。它通常是從受感染的動物或受污染的動物產品傳播給人類的。據有關部門稱：病原體是來自生產動物疫苗的國有生物製劑廠。他們是在去年出狀況的。

據報導，該工廠於2019年7月和8月使用了過期的消毒劑生產布魯氏菌疫苗。因此，細菌沒有被殺死反而進入了工廠的通風系統。風把帶有病原體的氣溶膠帶到了獸醫研究所，自十二月以來，它已經感染了該處近200人。不久前，工廠管理階層已經為這一事件道歉。據當局稱，該工廠已經失去了生產布魯氏菌疫苗的許可證。而被感染者應該十月開始可以獲得賠償。

根據美國疾病保護局CDC的報告，布魯氏菌在人與人之間的傳播「極為罕見」。在某些情況下，病原體會永久地存在人體內並引起一些終身症狀，例如慢性疲勞，心臟病或關節炎。
