据称，董瑶琼在精神病院被喂药，现在比之前胖了很多，也完全不是从前活泼的模样，变得沉默寡言，神情紧张，甚至有痴呆状，同之前判若两人。

去年7月4日，董瑶琼在推特上视频直播了自己在上海向习近平画像泼墨的行为，并声称自己遭受“脑控迫害”。视频在网络旋即引发无数关注。但几小时后董瑶琼就下落不明。之后经证实，董瑶琼被送往湖南省株洲市第三医院（当地一所精神病医院）。之后，各地的习近平宣传画和以往随处可见的政治标语被紧急撤下。

董瑶琼的父亲董建彪自2018年8月1日与律师去株洲第三医院找董瑶琼，被带走，之后他即被软禁在攸县老家一指定居所，被禁止与外界接触，直到2019年10月7日才被解除管制。

之后董建彪在湖南耒阳导子乡源江山煤矿打工，12月中旬因工伤导致左边肩膀部位缝了八针，现在在休养阶段，但煤矿已将他解雇。
