在西藏色达喇荣寺及白玉县境内的亚青佛学院数年间已有众多僧尼遭到驱离，被迫返回西藏自治区和其他藏区，并遭严格限制人身自由和有辱人格待遇。
2016年，中国当局大规模拆毁了世界最大的藏传佛教中心喇荣五明佛学院和亚青佛学院，导致数千座僧舍被毁， 数千名僧尼被驱逐北驱逐出上述两座佛学院。
据《亚洲自由电台》报道，今年5月开始中国当局大规模驱逐亚青佛学院僧俗学员员。近 3500名僧尼被驱逐。由于驱逐行动仍在进行中，因此遭驱逐的僧尼人数将陆续增长。
在通过社交媒体获得的图像中，亚青佛学院僧尼们排着队，并彼此告别，而在其他图像中，看到许多公共汽车等待运送被驱逐的僧尼们。当他们被带到公共汽车上时，留下来的人被军警阻止为被驱逐的朋友送行。
