捷克首都布拉格市政府與北京解除姊妹市關係後，周一（13日）正式與台北市簽署協議，締結為姊妹市。布拉格市長賀吉普（Zdenek Hrib）認為，此舉對雙方都最為有利；台北市長柯文哲則認為，布拉格擁有選擇與各城市結為姊妹市的權利。賀吉普與柯文哲簽署協議後接受傳媒採訪，他表示，布拉格與台北擁有相同的民主價值，而且會尊重基本人權和文化自由，故與台北締結為姊妹市更為有利。
至於柯文哲則表示，布拉格可自由選擇與世界各個城市結為姊妹市，北京應讓布拉格有選擇的權利。
據了解，賀吉普周日（12日）曾在傳媒上發表文章，批評大陸對於布拉格與台北締結為姊妹市「滿腔憤恨」，試圖左右捷克的輿論；又指他因不接受「一個中國」政策條款，無法簽署一份迫使布拉格反對台灣與西藏獨立的協議，才與北京解除姊妹市關係。
他強調，自己並不提倡與大陸斷交，但呼籲歐洲民主國家認真思考，是否與「危險且不可靠的夥伴」建立密切關係。
台灣的陸委會周二（14日）表示，北京當局無權置喙，此為正常、健康的國際城市交流，陸方勿以「一中原則」限縮台灣的國際空間。
