據《寒冬》雜誌報導，宗教在中國處處受到迫害，無論是旅遊景點，抑或是寺廟、陵園等地，均被全面整治，去年5月份，中共統戰部曾說過，管理大型露天宗教造像，是在落實中央對於宗教決策部署的政治任務，此後不少佛像就陸續被封蓋或是摧毀。

中國見佛就滅，近期又對被當地人視為「風水寶地」的河北省龍鳳陵園動手，強拆一座露天大型彌勒佛銅坐像，該銅坐像要價千萬人民幣，當局共耗時17天，砸下40多萬元人民幣做拆除工程。

執行拆除行動的工作人員表示，當局統戰部下令，若誰在拆除過程中阻攔就抓誰坐牢，更說道，超過十公尺的露天造像都要拆，不拆就罰款，罰款後還是要拆。

一名購買該陵園墓地的民眾得知該消息後，氣憤難平，他表示，當初就是看中這座佛像，才會選擇購入該塊墓地選，政府沒給買主任何說法就強行拆除，也沒貼公告，真的太過分。

不僅該座露天大型彌勒佛銅坐像被拆，另外還有河南省安陽市一處國家AAA級旅遊景點中，一座高26尺，用43塊白玉石雕刻堆砌而成，更是要價100多萬元人民幣的觀音像，被政府以「觀音像太高，影響美觀」勒令拆除，一樣被告知，若拒拆，就按掃黑除惡處置，如今已被大卸49塊，聳立莊嚴的觀音像不復存在。
