「8.31」香港警方太子站無差別毆打市民事件後，港鐵備受輿論詬病。據稱有港鐵員工近日向外界爆料，稱所有港鐵站內設施遭到的破壞皆是警方便衣所為，而港鐵應政府要求製造混亂假相意在嫁禍抗爭者。

港府上周推出《禁蒙面法》，令港人強烈反彈。連日來，港人蒙面抗議不斷。周日（10月13日）香港民眾再次發起抗議活動，即全港18區「和勇一家 遍地開花」和九龍區的「我想香港」活動。港警瘋狂發射各種彈藥打壓驅散民眾，警暴醜聞頻傳，但港人堅持不懈持續抗爭。

13日，有香港網民在Facebook上爆料稱，來自MTR（香港地鐵）內部的消息，所有MTR站被破壞的設施全部都是港警臥底所為，包括放火和灌水，特別是封站後在站內的破壞及只有CCTVB（TVB）一個電視台的獨家影片。

由於TVB（香港無線電視）的政治立場被指較為親港府及北京，故其亦被稱作「CCTVB」。

消息還稱，港鐵開放少量的閘機是應政府要求，目的想製造假相是抗爭人士破壞閘機來令市民不方便，增加市民對抗爭人士的不滿，其實那些封閉的閘機全部運作正常。目前，這則消息的真實性還有待核實。

香港地鐵總計有94個鐵路站及68個輕軌站，被稱為全球最繁忙的鐵路系統之一。香港政府是港鐵的最大股東，持股量達到76%。

8月31日晚上，港警在港鐵太子站車廂無差別打人，而港鐵被指協助港警抓人，此外網傳港鐵將刪除「8.31」事件的相關閉路電視片段，引起大批民眾不滿。對此，不少港人諷刺港鐵為「黨鐵」。

自本月4日起，港鐵曾多次以「車站設施遭到抗爭者破壞」為由宣佈全線或部份車站暫停服務。但輿論指港府指使港鐵製造混亂假相，試圖在市民與抗爭者之間造成矛盾。
